AN IMMERSIVE ITINERARY IN THE HEART OF THE AMAZON RAINFOREST
TAPAJÓS-ARAPIUNS EXTRACTIVE RESERVE - SANTARÉM, BRAZIL
FEBRUARY 10 - 17
VOLUNTEER WORK & COMMUNITY-BASED TOURISM
EVERY JOB THAT MATTERS, NEEDS
Our first Amazon Expedition was a great success! We were able to build a plant nursery with capacity for a hundred and fifty thousand seedlings and now the work must continue!
We'll go back to the Tapajós-Arapiuns Extractive Reserve, in Santarém, Pará, and put these seedlings to the best use possible: repair the Amazon Rainforest!
You are our guest to roll up your sleeves and get down to work for the recovery of some of the degraded areas of the forest, counting with the specialized help of the Projeto Saúde e Alegria (Health and Joy Project), our partner NGO, who, for the past thirty years, has been bringing more dignity to those living in the largest rainforest in the world while helping to preserve it.
Plant nursery all finished! =)
LETS VERIFY IN PRACTICE
HOW THE SEEDLINGS ARE CHANGING THE LIVES OF THOSE LIVING IN THE REGION
AN AUTHENTIC AMAZON EXPERIENCE
For the first time, a group of visitors will board the "B/M Saúde e Alegria", the boat which will serve as accommodation and transportation while we go up the Tapajós river to know some of the communities and families which use the seedlings in their own fields as source of income, as they provide fruits and other extractive products.
It's our job to help the NGO in the distribution of different seedlings, such as the famous Brazilian "açaí", as well as mahogany, "cupuaçu" and others. It's the opportunity to give continuity to the work we helped execute in the first voyage, but, especially, this is
a chance to better understand the way of life of the people living in the forest.
To make the whole experience even richer and bring an alternative source of income to the communities, our itinerary includes community based tourism, on which people living in the region will present to us, first hand, all that is more distinct about their lifestyle and you are given the opportunity to learn about local customs in the most authentic manner:
BY EXPERIENCiNG IT!

TESTIMONIALS FROM FORMER PARTICIPANTS
"It was one of the most incredible trips I've ever taken part in. (...) Everywhere I go, everyone I meet, I tell about this journey. I tell them about how grand is the feeling that flows on the first day and then grows until it has taken over me. It is such a contagious satisfaction and joy that I cannot keep it just for myself. "
REGIANE THAHIRA, photographer, São Paulo - participant of the 1st Amazon Expedition
"It was the best thing that happened to me in 2017 and I can only say thanks for having the opportunity of being a part of such a beautiful, truthful and amazing project!"
SARAH CARDOSO, tourism specialist, Brasília - participant of the 1st Amazon Expedition
"I have so much to thank and I wish for the project to grow slowly and come true, not only for the sake of the Reserve and the NGO, but also so that more people are able to live this life experience: to know how different are the lives of these people in our country, to know the brilliant work of Health and Joy Project and the extraordinary results they are producing in the region, helping them both, financially and through tourism, using community-based tourism. Thanks again for the experience."
THAÍS COLPAERT, sustainability consultant, São Paulo - participant of the 1st Amazon Expedition
